Dave Matthews is so 1997
We here at Mock Modesty are Dave Matthews fans. We have been to 20+ DMB shows since 1997 and have enjoyed most. But we have to say we agree with most of this expose about the band's frontman:
Matthews even feels isolated from fans with whom he once felt a strong bond, disparaging them as "lame." He also admits that the older he gets, the more out of place he feels around "kids in their Dave Matthews phase."
"I used to talk for hours about my music or spend a whole night in a DMB chatroom," Matthews said. "But now, the people at the shows seem like such geeks, standing there with their elaborate taping equipment. They're really, really young, too. What do I have in common with them? They're just a bunch of kids who need someone to look up to. Why would I look up to me? I'm so 1997."

sounds like he needs to change things up a bit - make an album or two that are uncharacteristic two A) shake away some of the "lame" fans and B) find some new fans interested in the different music
from a guitarist's perspective, a lot of dave is hard to play because it can get fairly tricky. therefore, it's always cool in a non lame sort of way. maybe he could encourage more of these lazy youngin's to drop their tape recorders and learn to play an instrument
We here at Mock Modest would like to note that "The Onion" is a satirical newsmagazine. If you read the entire article (link at the end of the post) you will, hopefully, grasp the subtle humor.
Maybe if you quoted some of the more "subtle" humor, the rest of us would have picked up on it a little quicker!!
